African Djembe Drum Circle

Take part in a fun and relaxing drum circle where you can learn multi-rhythms on African djembe drums. Led by Dr. Lydia A. Woods, Founder & CEO of Drum Arizona, Inc., this facilitated session encourages creative expression through listening and playing. No experience is necessary and all drums will be provided. All are welcome! This event is funded by a City of Glendale Performing Arts Grant.

All-Ages Art Night: Freedom Quilts

Some quilts share memories. Some tell stories. And some are maps. In this special presentation with the Arizona Humanities Council, you’ll learn about the patterns of Freedom Quilts, their meanings, and their role in the Underground Railroad. This program is intended for ages 5 and up.

Creative Kids: Abstract Valentine’s Day Art Inspired by Alma Thomas

Create Valentine’s Day art inspired by the beautiful and talented Alma Thomas, a black female artist celebrated for her attention to lively colors and her positive perspective on the world around her. This first-come, first-served program is perfect for ages 6-12, but younger children are also welcome to participate with their grown-up helpers.
Found Object Assemblage Art Inspired by James Hampton

Craft assemblage art pieces using found objects while exploring the work of outsider artist James Hampton. All necessary materials will be provided in this program for ages 12-18, but participants are encouraged to bring additional found objects to enhance their creations.

Driftwood Quintet presents an exciting pairing of chamber music and poetry. Featured poet Sean Avery Medlin will perform new works and read from their internationally published poetry collection,
808s & Otherworlds. Music will include works by Jeff Scott and Nkeiru Okoye and pieces by local composer Kevin E. Kerr and Driftwood's own Benjamin Pale.
