A 3D printer is a device that makes real, three-dimensional objects from a digital file. Glendale Public Library's 3D printers use PLA (plastic) filament.
Learn more about our printersYou can easily find and download digital files of objects ready for printing from sites like
Thingiverse,
Pinshape,
Printables,
Youmagine, and
Cults3D.
You can also design your own object or edit an existing digital file from one of the sites above, using free 3D modeling software such as
TinkerCAD and
Blender. There are many online tutorials, and the library sometimes offers short classes for beginners to get started.
The library only accepts .STL formatted files for 3D printing.
Currently, the library only prints with PLA filament.
Water-soluble PVA filament is available for supports, upon request.
The library charges ten cents ($0.10) per gram. A staff member will contact you with an estimate before printing your object.
The maximum dimensions of a library 3D printed object are 280 x 280 x 270 (in millimeters) or 11 X 11 X 10.5 (in inches). However, we are mainly equipped to handle smaller format prints. Larger, more complex prints can sometimes produce unsatisfactory results.
Most items can be printed in seven to ten business days. Once a project has been submitted through the
library's online form, a staff member will contact the patron with more information.
